Quatuor Magenta
Fanny Mendelssohn
Fanny Mendelssohn (1805-1847)
String Quartet
Fanny Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in E-flat major, her only work in the genre, ranks among her most ambitious chamber compositions. Written in 1834 within the musical circle of the Mendelssohn family in Berlin, the quartet opens with an almost improvisatory gesture before unfolding a layered and deeply felt style of writing. Through a extensive thematic development and a close musical exchange between the four instruments, the composer affirms her distinctive personality, firmly rooted within German Romanticism.
