Galilee Quartet
music by Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann
Franz Schubert (1797-1828)
String Quartet No. 12 “Quartettsatz”, D. 703
Robert Schumann (1810-1856)
Quartet, op. 41 No. 2
With his Quartettsatz, Schubert left behind one of the most striking fragments in the string quartet repertoire. The sole movement of an unfinished quartet, this piece concentrates an exceptional sense of dramatic tension and rhythmic energy.
Composed in 1842, Schumann’s String Quartet Op. 41 No. 2 stands out for the vitality of its writing, the richness of its thematic work and the constant interplay between the four instruments.
