Both Schumann and Mendelssohn were influential composers of the Romantic period, and their piano quartets are among the highlights of the chamber music repertoire. Although they both had their own style, their piano quartets share similarities in the use of expressive melodies and structures so typical of Romanticism.
Robert Schumann's Piano Quartet embodies the essence of Romanticism with its profound emotional and expressive power. Schumann creates a lush soundscape that takes the listener on a journey through dreams and longings. From tender lyricism to bursts of virtuosity, every note contributes to the intensely emotional story of this masterpiece.
Felix Mendelssohn wrote his First Piano Quartet in 1822, aged 13! It is a thrilling work that shows his genius and precociousness. Like no other, Mendelssohn combines the elegance of the Classical style with the passion of the Romantic. The Piano Quartet reflects the composer's youthful vitality and marks the beginning of an extraordinary artistic journey.
Trio Rasa is a talented group of musicians dedicated to chamber music. The piano trio was founded by three young musicians while studying at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. Violinist Kasper Delrue, cellist Cèlia Brunet Vila and pianist Stijn Claeys combine their individual skills and musical backgrounds to create a unique and compelling sound. For this concert, they team up with viola player Helena De Bruyn.
