Middle of the 18th century. The Le Picard organ was built in the abbey church. The style is influenced by French baroque. Vocal music also developed in this direction. Church music of the 19th century abandons mysticism and becomes very passionate, emotional and persuasive.

After 900 years, we are back at the beginning, because even today, people are falling under the spell of the sound world of contemplation and meditation. Mystical Gregorian chant reappears and takes on a new, contemporary and sacred tone. Silence and stillness inspire. Healing.

Ensemble Currende

You may know Ensemble Currende and Erik Van Nevel from the heavenly Christmas concerts at St Peter's. The ensemble is a great proponent of Flemish polyphony, but it is equally at home in the early baroque music of Schütz or Monteverdi. And they are also very familiar with the high baroque.

New compositions are increasingly on the programme, but always in combination with early music. What is characteristic of Currende is the infectious and convincing way in which the music is performed. This, together with the pursuit of a particularly pure intonation, makes Currende easily recognisable.
