Theme combo The Music of Bert Joris

As every year, Leuven Jazz presents a series of theme combos by the jazz department of the LUCA School of Arts. Together with their teachers, the students develop a repertoire based on a specific theme or notable figure from the history of jazz.

Saxophone teacher Frank Vaganée and his students will immerse you in the intimate universe of Bert Joris. This internationally acclaimed trumpeter and composer is known for his warm tone and refined, melodic compositions.

For this combo, the focus is on works that Joris wrote for smaller ensembles – music full of colour, emotion and craftsmanship, in which each voice tells a story.
