By looking at the aesthetic features one has, their other qualities seem to lose meaning.

How we look affects how we experience the world. Attractiveness opens doors, but 'pretty privilege' also has a downside. Those who live up to the ideal image are often reduced to their looks. At the same time, young people increasingly struggle with unrealistic beauty standards - increasingly extreme, increasingly less attainable.

The Ethereal Paradox is a three-part dance solo in which dancer Zoë Chungong explores the meaning of beauty. Each part highlights a woman presenting her body in a different zeitgeist and dance style: from the roaring twenties over contemporary hip-hop culture to a future where perhaps only virtual beauties exist.

In recent years, Zoë Chungong danced in any attempt will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones by Jan Martens, What We Can Do Together by MonkeyMind Company (BE) and Unmute Dance Company (SA) and in GAZE (Laura Neyskens & Raphaël Vande-weyer). This season, she is also dancing in the revival of THE DOG DAYS ARE OVER by Jan Martens.
