CHANGE OF PROGRAMME

Due to the weather forecast for Sunday, July 4th, we have to postpone the MarimbaSCAPES, as the soundscapes and marimba are not rainproof. We hope to organise the event on Saturday, July 24th, in better conditions. Attention: on this new date, we will start 1 h later (as of 15.30 h).

For quite some time now, composer and percussionist Evert Van Eynde has been conceiving other ways to reach an audience than via traditional stage concerts. The COVID pandemic has been a catalyst in giving this project its definitive format.

The bicentennial Botanic Gardens will be the setting for MarimbaSCAPES.The composer has divided the gardens into twelve zones and composed a peaceful score for each zone, as an enrichment to the already wonderful surroundings. The soundscapes will immerse you in a sound experience, a kind of augmented reality. The key instrument for all music will be the marimba, whereby the warm sound of the tropical wooden keyboard is an obvious link with the setting.

Each soundscape will start at 15.30 h and at 16.00 h, Van Eynde will play the marimba solo in front of the central greenhouse. This live concert will blend with the soundscapes, that will gradually sprawl after this performance.
