Following the death of the Sun King in 1715, the regent Philippe d’Orléans introduced his favourite Italian style at the royal court. The dance suite, which was then fashionable in France, gradually gave way to the Italian sonata.
The musicians of Les Folies françoises present us with three composers that marked the music history; they explore the evolution that thoroughly modified the French musical aesthetics.
Jean-Ferry Rebel (1666-1747)
Suite No. 2 in D minor
François Couperin (1668-1733)
Royal Concert No.3 (in A major)
Jean-Marie Leclair (1697-1764)
Violin Sonata op. 2 No. 8 in D major
