One could describe Nereus Quartet as follows: four enthusiastic and talented young musicians who can convey the magic of music really well. During this afternoon concert, they will perform typically French, English and Flemish impressionist music. Gabriel Fauré is known to the general public because of the heavenly Requiem, but he also excelled in the chamber music genre. His Piano Quartet No. 1 is without a doubt a masterpiece in the genre.

Impressionist composers used various instruments, rhythms and timbres to evoke expressive atmospheres, emotions and stories. In addition to Gabriel Fauré’s refined Piano Quartet, Nereus Quartet will also play the lively Phantasy by British composer Frank Bridge and Louis De Meester’s neo-romantic Divertimento a quatro.

The Nereus Quartet is one of the coveted finalists of Supernova, the most important competition for young Belgian chamber music ensembles. The competition audience in De Singel seemed incredibly charmed by their interplay and melodic music.

Nereus Quartet saw the light in the Conservatory of Brussels, where they studied with Eric Robberecht and Thomas Dieltjens. In 2021-22, they were part of the Orpheus Institute and collaborated with Amy Norrington, Piet Kuijken and Paul de Clerck. In 2022, they took lessons at the Hannover Hochschule. They participated in the Internationale Sommerakademie für Kammermusik in Niedersachsen and ARAM masterclasses.
