Doulce folie
Attaingnant, Sermisy, Certon, Janequin, Sandrin …
Doulce folie depicts the folly of love in the Renaissance through the works of composers at the French court from François I to Henri IV. Folie champêtre, in which shepherds and shepherdesses indulge in ambiguous games. Folie de l’enfermement, in which parents want to send their daughter to a convent. Folie amoureuse, the most famous of the Renaissance songs based on Ronsard’s Les Amours. And finally, la folie érotique, so present in these scabrous songs, where words with double meanings are always underlined by the music.
