L O N E is a circus solo that explores the thin line between being alone and solitude. Using an innovative bascule structure, Luuk explores the limits of his discipline, merging acrobatics, balance and weightlessness into an expressive dialogue full of tranquility, playfulness and creativity.

In a world where we are constantly connected, being alone seems like something to be avoided. It is often viewed with suspicion. L O N E is an ode to the power and beauty of seclusion. A performance that rediscovers the peace and freedom of being alone and shows how this can be a source of creativity.

With his innovative bascule construction and impressive physical approach, Luuk Brantjes pushes the boundaries of his discipline, which is rich in power and energy.

Bio

Luuk Brantjes is a circus artist and creator from Rotterdam. After graduating with his collective 4onBoard from DOCH University for Dance and Circus in 2020, he focused on his first solo performance L O N E. In addition to his solo work, he is co-author of SMÄLTANDE, a site-specific performance in the snow about climate awareness and the beauty of winter. His work revolves around finding new, unexpected ways to interact with the bascule.

René - Sinking Sideways ^(BE/DE)

Two dance acrobats challenge Newton's third law: action and reaction. Or how physics can also be circus. They seek freedom within strict structures. With precision and playfulness, René reveals the essence of collaboration: sharing focus, synchronizing, persevering and failing. An acrobatic race to a meticulously choreographed finish line.

Within a rectangular playing surface, an endless back-and-forth unfolds, focusing on rhythm and repetition. What starts with simple patterns grows into a complex acrobatic dynamic. René plays with variation within the immutable and demands utmost precision from the performers. Every movement counts, every attempt matters. In a carefully composed interplay, the acrobats balance between control and surrender, between success and failure. Never alone, but always together.

Bio

Sinking Sideways is a Flemish contemporary circus collective. Three acrobats working together choreographically. The current company members are Dries Vanwalle (Belgium), Raf Pringuet (Belgium) and Xenia Bannuscher (Germany). They met during their studies at the circus department of Codarts University of the Arts (Rotterdam, NL) and specialize in dance acrobatics. Xenia and Dries, who graduated in July 2020, form the duo in René, while Raf, who graduated in 2021, is involved in other projects of the collective.

In the round

The theatre-in-the-round is a special arrangement, where the stage is at the heart of the space, surrounded by seats. This layout creates a more intense, shared experience between actors and gallery due to its proximity. The audience feels involved differently, by seeing not only the actors, but also each other.

This arrangement was already popular in ancient Greece and still offers an intense experience.

In the new performing arts site, makers will be able to use this In the round setup on a large scale. This is why 30CC is launching this series as a glimpse into the future, but in miniature. For three weeks, we will set up the Predikherenkerk as an In the round theatre.
