An ode to the lonely human and his endless imagination.
aai tells the story of a grandfather who is suddenly on his own and seeks comfort in everything around him. People arrive. People leave. But who is real? He doesn’t remember where he is, when he is and why he is.
Did the lamp just wave?
And did the carpet sneeze?
Aiaiaai
Poor Grandpa.
Fortunately, it is not all sorrow and misery. Because humans – in all their loneliness – are hilarious, endearing and magical as well.
Femke Stallaerts uses the images her grandpa with dementia saw in the last years of his life as a source of inspiration for aai. Aai is a wordless mask production in which everyday objects come to life. A trip with estranged family and imaginary friends. An animistic ode to the lonely human and his endless imagination.
