The versatility and international appeal of the Franco-Flemish polyphonist Guillaume Du Fay (1397-1474) is almost impossible to encapsulate in a single concert.
In his day, Du Fay was a name in demand throughout Europe, commissioned to compose for cathedral dedications, noble weddings, important peace negotiations, papal and imperial coronations, and many other historical events. His influence spread across the continent and his compositions were often copied and distributed.
His curriculum vitae reads like a musical commentary on the times in which he lived. At the same time, he laid the foundations for groundbreaking musical developments and innovations that led to a universal and sophisticated polyphony.
Paul Van Nevel and the Huelgas Ensemble will take you into the world of Guillaume Du Fay.
