Marimba player Adilia Yip searches for new perspectives on her own instrument, which was only born in 1910, in her investigation of the West African balafon tradition. She spoke to players on the spot and made recordings that shed a unique light on the polyrhythmic world of this percussion, in which body language and movement play a decisive role.
Dr. Adilia Yip is a marimba player/percussionist and artistic researcher.
