In 700 BC, the Greek poet Hesiodos wrote a series of pieces of advice for his brother on the art of farming. This letter, entitled Works and Days, became a verse almanac, combining agricultural advice with a handbook for life in general.

FC Bergman adopts Hesiodos' title for their own reflections on life on (and with) the land. A life lived to the rhythm of the seasons, according to the laws of the land and the customs of the community that tills it.

A new age, however, with new possibilities and desires, is making its way into this fragile marriage between man and earth.

While FC Bergman's previous production, The Sheep Song (2021), was an ode to the freedom of the individual and the social engineering of life, Works and Days is a veritable ode to the inexorable power of the group and the boundless force of nature. Although it is in a way - and inevitably - an elegy.

FC Bergman

FC Bergman is a theatre collective of four artists - Stef Aerts, Joé Agemans, Thomas Verstraeten and Marie Vinck - which, immediately after their formation in 2008 (then still with Bart Hollanders and Matteo Simoni), achieved fame with sensational site-specific performances. Since 2013, FC Bergman has been a permanent member of Toneelhuis and are part of the artistic direction.

As recently as 2023, FC Bergman won the prestigious Silver Lion for Theatre at the Venice Biennale, recognising their impact on the world stage.
