“People often consider the harp a dreamy instrument, but it is so much more than that.” This is quote by young Flemish harpist Mathilde Wauters, a top musician through and through. She tells musical stories with her harp like nobody else.

In Whispers of Tales, Mathilde takes us back to when long evenings were used to tell all kinds of stories. Away from all social media, TV and radio. “Telling each other stories brought a little light to the darkness and allowed people to travel all over the world in their imagination,” says Wouters.

These customs seem to have been forgotten about these days. This old tradition has only survived in music… Be carried away by the enchanting and storytelling music, such as the Spanish Dances by Manuel de Falla, La volière magique by Marcel Tournier and Ballade fantastique by Henriette Renié.

Mathilde Wauters has perseverance and impresses audiences everywhere she goes, but remains humble. She has already made it into the hall of fame of Belgian harpists! At the age of 15, she was admitted to the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in Sophie Hallynck’s class as a young talent. She obtained her master’s degree with the highest distinction in 2017. Mathilde then perfected her skill at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in Isabelle Moretti’s class, where she obtained her master’s degree with congratulations from the jury. She became laureate of various national and international competitions and is solo harpist in the The Hague Residentie Orchestra.
