In barely ten years, Leuven tenor Reinoud Van Mechelen has become a reference in Baroque music. Together with his ensemble a nocte temporis, he interprets French religious Baroque music in Quis ego, domine. Reinoud has made a fine selection from the motets of André Campra (1660-1744), who began his career in the choir of Aix-en-Provence and eventually became maître de musique of the Notre-Dame de Paris for which he composed sacral music.

"I have tried as much as possible to blend into the delicacy of French music the vivacity of Italian music," André Campra wrote in the preface of this first book of cantatas. French composer Campra is not second to his better known compatriots Lully, Charpentier and Rameau. Just like Charpentier, Campra was a man of two worlds: the Italian and French as well as the theatrical and religious worlds.

To this selection, Reinoud add motets by the unknown master François Joseph Salomon (1649-1732).
