Today, César Franck’s 'Quintet' of 1879 is considered one of the masterpieces of the genre. However, the première on January 17th, 1880, reaped relatively little acclaim. The piece stands out by its richness of sound, but also by its grand allure, in which the composer can fully develop his typical cyclical style.
