Estaciones del Tango

Ardiente Quintet
Thu 23/04/2026 - 20:00

Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) was an Argentinian composer and bandoneon player. His musical legacy is one of passion, emotion and adventure. It is therefore no wonder he is regarded as the

father of modern tango, into which he wove influences of classical music and jazz.

This Tango Nuevo is central in the fiery and compelling repertoire that the Ardiente Quintet performs. Piazzolla's Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas (The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires) tells the story of a dockworker who experiences life in the 1960s in all its many aspects; melancholic melodies alternate with the necessary drama.

The quintet also performs Piazzolla’s Retrato de Milton, most likely a tribute to the Brazilian singer-songwriter Milton Nascimento.

Ardiente Quintet also plays works by two Belgian composers who are inspired by tango music. Frédéric Devreese wrote his Passage à 5 for this unique line-up. This rhythmic and playful work allows the musicians to enter into a dialogue with each other. Milonga and Tango are two recent Argentinian dances by Jeroen D’Hoe. They contrast in lyricism on the one hand and rhythm on the other.

Accompany the Ardiente Quintet on this sometimes fiery, sometimes intimate but continuously passionate journey. The Ardiente Quintet is a Leuven chamber music ensemble that was founded at the LUCA School of Arts campus Lemmens out of a shared love of this unique tango line-up. The quintet alternates repertoire by Astor Piazzolla with (relatively) new works written by Belgian composers. The fiery energy of this group of friends is appreciated by a wide audience.
