The acclaimed performance Badke, created in 2013 with ten Palestinian performers, is now given new life by Palestinian choreographers Amir Sabra and Ata Khatab. Badke(remix) is an explosion of joy and togetherness, an antidote to the harsh reality that shimmers beneath its festive surface.
Dabke is a traditional Palestinian dance typically performed at (wedding) celebrations. Here, it undergoes a fascinating transformation. Drawing on backgrounds in traditional dabke, contemporary dance, Hip Hop, capoeira and circus, the Palestinian performers present a contemporary reimagining of the form.
Badke(remix) becomes a vibrant expression of collective belonging despite globalisation, while at the same time voicing a desire to be part of the wider world beyond.
