We gladly provide some musical accompaniment to the beginning of the new year!
Many people believe we are heading for the new ‘roaring twenties’ once the coronavirus pandemic has subsided. On this New Year's concert, the Belgian National Orchestra will therefore not only play the inevitable waltzes, polkas and marches by the Strauss family, but also pay a musical tribute to the 1920s.
The highlights include the five-part suite full of jazz influences and popular melodies titled Music for the Theatre by American composer Aaron Copland, and the ballet La création du monde. Darius Milhaud wrote this daring work in 1922 after he had discovered American jazz music in London and New York. Famous conductor Leonard Bernstein said that ‘the Creation of the World emerges not as a flirtation but as a real love affair with jazz’.
