New Year's concert
It promises to be an invigorating and refreshing new year with Brussels Philharmonic! For once, the traditional New Year's concert full of swirling waltzes and polkas will not be drenched in champagne, but in water… The wonderful waltzes of the Strauss family will provide a festive interlude with the highlight being The Blue Danube, the classic that takes us to the banks of this majestic river!
Georg Friedrich Händel breaks the ice with his festive Water Music, transporting us to the Thames for a royal boat tour. About a 1000 km away, another river flows through Bohemian woods and valleys: in The Moldau, Smetana expertly guides us downstream, from the bubbling source along hunts and weddings to the place where the river widens and disappears into the distance.
We add a little touch of magic with The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas, in which water is an indomitable element. Just as indomitable are the clouds in Anna Clyne’s Prince of Clouds, passing on knowledge and inspiration from generation to generation.
