The Olevodroom
Since July 2021, the Hertogensite has been a unique cultural meeting place in Leuven's lower town. Where Saint Peter's hospital once stood, first the Velodroom and later the Olevodroom brightened up the neighbourhood.
These temporary installations played a unique role in the spatial and cultural development of the lower town. In the future, a new performing arts building will be constructed on the site of the Olevodroom, which, together with the Romaanse Poort and the Predikherenkerk, will form the performing arts site.
Even though the Velodrome and Olevodrome were temporary projects, their community-building and cultural significance can serve as an example for the future. The performing arts site will also become a crossroads of art, society and encounter: an indispensable cultural hotspot in Leuven.
Between 2021 and 2025, 494 events took place on the site, and 117 partners collaborated. All in all, the total number of visitors to the Velodroom and Olevodroom in recent years amounts to around 96,600.
Olevodroom - the end
With the festive 'One More Time', we bid farewell to summer at the Olevodroom on Saturday, 27 September 2025.
This also marked the end of the site's activation. The Olevodroom artwork will remain in place for the time being, possibly until the summer of 2026.
A heartfelt thank you to all visitors and partners over the past years!
