Lode Van Aken (1943-2021) did not want to join the army. In the army, you become a man and that was not his ambition at all. However, in the 1970s he did make it into one of the first househusbands in our country - against the prevailing gender roles that were considered unshakable. So theatre-maker Adriaan van Aken and his sister grew up with two mother figures: a woman and a man with a remarkably well-developed feminine side.

Becoming a househusband. Going against the grain. You don't choose that overnight. Things precede that. Which ones? Adriaan broaches the theme of gender roles through the figure of his father and, amid the nature-nurture discussions, hopes to learn more about himself while interviewing him.

Dutch spoken With English surtitles.
