The string quartet is considered a top genre of chamber music. It grew from the Baroque trio sonata further developed by Franz Xaver Richter. Haydn is also regarded as one of the genre’s founders. We will hear the first steps in the development of a new genre, performed on period instruments.

Franz Xaver Richter (1709-1789)
Quartet in B-flat major

Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809)
String Quartet in B minor, , op. 33 no.1 Hob III:37
