Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943)
Etudes-tableaux for piano, opus 39
Intelligent, sensitive, tempestuous, controlled, fragile … they’re all proper descriptions of Stephane Ginsburgh.
And still, he always manages to surprise his listeners.
Ginsburgh is rooted in the Russian piano literature of the 20th century.
If the irresistible Prokofiev is his brother – as demonstrated in the recording of the complete sonatas on the Cypres label – than the more emotional Rachmaninov might be considered a distant cousin, but definitely one he would like to get to know better.
His approach of opus 39 by the latter might very well become a truly emotional experience!
