Scriabin and Prokofiev are two major figures in Russian twentieth century music. The former was one of the artisans who, at the beginning of the century, emancipated harmonic language from the shackles of tonality, while the latter freed himself from the rules of composition and created works that privileged rhythm and a soberly inspired modern lyricism.
