ULTRA

Together with eleven adolescents (m/f/x) aged between 15 and 21, Israeli choreographer Reut Shemesh has created a powerful dance production about manliness and rebellion as well as vulnerability. She drew inspiration from the Ultras, the hard-core football fans who vocally and actively support their club. What is their sense of belonging to the group they identify with? What vulnerability is hidden behind their often aggressive movements, chants and clothes?

For the creation of ULTRA, Reut Shemesh combines two fascinations: the attraction of symbols and uniforms on the one hand and the questions she asks herself as the mother of a young son on the other hand. What is it like to grow up as a boy in a time when the male role is so unclear?
