Joseph Jongen
(1873-1953)
Two pieces in trio for piano, violin and cello, op. 95
Sonata duo for violin and cello, op. 109
Joseph Jongen was a dominant figure in Belgian music between the wars, influenced first by Richard Strauss and then by French Impressionism before moving towards Neoclassicism. He is considered a ‘post-Franckist’ musician; but instead of César Franck, you rather hear the influence of Gabriel Fauré, with whom he shares a certain distinction and a taste for complex harmonies.
