Stylus Fantasticus

BL!NDMAN [sax] have a unique knack for breathing life into the virtuosity of the stylus fantasticus. This style of early baroque music is characterised by absolute freedom, regardless of melody, lyrics and structure, with virtuoso improvisations often resulting in complex compositions.

Eric Sleichim has arranged Buxtehude’s organ pieces and improvisations for saxophone quartet and tubax. Carlo Gesualdo was one of the founders of the stylus fantasticus and has inspired several generations of organists and composers. The use of infrared rays and electronic instruments adds a completely new dimension to the pieces from his sixth book of madrigals, which have been recorded by the singers of Collegium Vocale Gent.
