Erik Satie was a strange figure, but with an insane amount of creativity! He considered himself a composer “who ended up in an old world at a young age”. He didn’t care about traditions and had little respect for established names. Unabashedly, he went his own way, looking for unconditional musical freedom.

This theme day consists of three parts, with one aspect of Satie’s artistry bubbling to the surface in each part: first his tortuous faith, then his talent for satire and finally, his love of absurdities.

Satire Satie

Satire Satie revolves around one of Satie’s most bizarre masterpieces: Parade - a notorious succès de scandale from Parisian musical history. Together with Picasso and Cocteau, Satie flirts with surrealism and the temptations of nonsense and bad taste.

Also on the programme are two masterpieces by composers who helped define the timbre of Paris at the time: the Octet by Stravinski and the Sextet by Poulenc. The unequalled wind instrument players of I SOLISTI give the best of themselves, fond as they are of musical adventures.
