Erik Satie was a strange figure, but with an insane amount of creativity! He considered himself a composer “who ended up in an old world at a young age”. He didn’t care about traditions and had little respect for established names. Unabashedly, he went his own way, looking for unconditional musical freedom.

This theme day consists of three parts, with one aspect of Satie’s artistry bubbling to the surface in each part: first his tortuous faith, then his talent for satire and finally, his love of absurdities.

Salon Satie

Salon Satie weaves through Sunday afternoons in Paris: a touch of salon music, a dose of m’as-tu vu behaviour along the classy boulevards and a dash of elite fun in Bois de Boulogne. Pianist Inge Spinette and soprano Lore Binon perform a varied programme with piano music and songs by Satie and his contemporaries. The tone is often lighthearted, but the (self)mockery and cultural criticism lurk around every corner.
