Late Night Jam (as of 23h): free

For the 43rd edition of the B-Jazz International Contest, Muziekmozaïek and Leuven Jazz are looking for young Belgian jazz talent that is ready to conquer (inter)national stages.

During this Belgian preliminary round, four young bands get the chance to present themselves and their repertoire in optimal conditions to the public and to the jury. Based on what they see and especially hear, the jury members will choose one winner who can participate in the final of B-Jazz 2023 later this year.

After the four bands have presented themselves and awaiting the decision of the jury, the foyer is the place to be for a jam session with all musicians present. After the Late Night Jam, the jury will announce the winner.

  • 19h:  Knuets/Secula Quartet
  • 20h:  KAU trio.
  • 21h:  Orson Claeys Quintet
  • 22h:  Anti-Panopticon
  • 23h:  Late Night Jam (in the foyer)

Band 1 - Knuets/Secula Quartet ( 19h)
The Knuets/Secula Quartet is a new band formed by young Belgian guitarist Eliott Knuets and French pianist Noé Sécula. The rhythm section consists of drummer Genius Lee Wesley and Joan Codina Contra on double bass. They play new original compositions in which the spirit of masters such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Brad Mehldau,...lives on. Elliot is artist-in-residence during Leuven Jazz and can therefore be seen playing several more times at the festival.

Band 2 - KAU trio. (20h)

KAU trio. is an instrumental project based in Brussels consisting of drummer André Breidlid, Matteo Genovese on bass & Jan Janzen on keys. Representing various European backgrounds, their coming-together is in the spirit of the city they grew up in. Taking inspiration from jazz, they create a head-bobbing atmosphere using broken beats and catchy melodies while leaving space for improvisation.

Band 3 - Orson Claeys (21h)

Orson Claeys is a 24-year-old musician and composer from Ghent, Belgium. In April 2022, he decided to record four compositions and pursue his childhood dream.
He formed the band with fellow international students at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Inspired by world-renowned musicians like Aaron Parks, Ambrose Akinmusire, Shai Maestro and Walter Smith III, Orson Claeys is constantly searching for his own unique style in contemporary modern jazz.
