Oumou Sangaré (ML)
Since she made her debut with the very successful album Moussolou, Oumou Sangaré has been the most highly respected Malinese singer in the world. Through her socially-conscious lyrics, she battles the discrimination faced by African women. Sangaré represents a new generation of griottes, West African female poets and singers who keep the oral traditions alive.
She currently presents her latest album entitled Mogoya. Her velvety voice is given depth thanks to the accompaniment of traditional instruments such as the karignan, djembe and kora. We are looking forward to seeing this Malinese diva again after her last visit in November 2009.
