In 'Nomad', Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui reveals a mosaic of the desert’s living and inanimate elements.

We get impressions of the fluidity and adaptability of creatures that thrive in the most extreme conditions. We see the need for water, safety and comfort, which drives both animal behaviours and the human quest for spirituality. Above all, we witness the spirit of togetherness, friendship and symbiosis that are key to survival and evolution; especially in an arid world that is insurmountable without another’s support.

The remote landscape is both a metaphor for ultimate freedom and the impossibility of survival. The dancing nomads seem isolated in this environment, just as the present-day world for minority groups can be a desert: a dangerous place to stay. Set to the Middle-Eastern inspired music of Felix Buxton of Basement Jaxx.
