+ Alex Koo featuring Jean-Paul Estiévenart
Next.Ape consists of four ingenious musicians exploring the limits of psychedelic rock, trip hop and jazz. Their main influences are Radiohead, Damon Albarn, Modeselektor and Miles Davis.
The evocative lyrics and the overarching narrative of their first EP are imbued with cinematographic images and illustrate the oppressive reality. Their recognisable sound is characterised by a slamming snare drum, a deep bass on the Moog, a distorted guitar, inventive keyboards and of course a clear and charismatic voice. The groove is hectic and incisive. Improvisations give you goosebumps. In short, it is impossible to remain indifferent to Next.Ape’s music.
Young pianist Alex Koo is also set to conquer a larger audience. He recently ligned up with jazz 'heavyweights' Mark Turner and Ralph Alessi, which resulted in a highly acclaimed album. Now, he presents his Belgian trio with Dré Pallemaerts and Lennart Heyndels. Koo also composed a brand new repertoire, especially for this line-up, and took on board the extremely gifted trumpeter Jean-Paul Estiévenart.
