This programme consists of two masterpieces of the very limited repertoire for two violins. Both compositions make full use of the expressive possibilities of this instrumentation: Prokofiev’s 'Sonata' stands out by its ingenuity and diversity, whilst the (excerpts from) 'Duos for two violins' combine the energy of Hungarian folk music with Bartók’s compositional mastery.
Sergej Prokofjev (1891-1953)
