Norwegian violinist Mari Samuelsen has built a strong reputation over the past few years, with a traditional as well as a contemporary repertoire. She draws inspiration from contemporary composers such as Ólafur Arnalds, Jóhann Jóhannsson and Max Richter, with whom she has a special long-term collaboration.

In 2019, her first album with music by Bach, Glass, Richter, Gregson, Jóhannsson, Eno Vasks and others appeared on the renowned Deutsche Grammophon label. This was followed in 2020 by the releases of Moonlight (Beethoven) and Una Mattina (Einaudi).

Samuelsen has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls such as the Barbican in London, Philharmonie de Paris and Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.

She made her first appearance in Flanders in the autumn of 2018, presenting a Nordic noir programme together with Casco Phil, the unique Belgian chamber orchestra conducted by Benjamin Haemhouts. Three years on, we are eager to reinvite her and the ensemble to present their new programme.

  • Last week, she launched her brand new album Lys (light in Norwegian) on Deutsche Grammophon, presenting music by thirteen female composers: form Hildegard van Bingen, over Hania Rani and Beyoncé to Hildur Guðnadóttir.

Sander De Keere (1992, Ghent) is a Belgian musician and composer of classical and minimalist repetitive music. Besides music for television and theatre, soundtracks for podcasts and his work as a radio presenter on Klara, Sander balances between composer on the one hand and performing musician on the other.

His debut album Primitive Structures has just been released on W.E.R.F records.

A quest for simplicity and slow development. That is the mission of Sander De Keere.
A search for what minimal music can mean today, as in: less in a world of evermore. Balancing between meditative and repetitive. Between conceptual and concrete.
