Keys to Friendship
When the war in Syria escalated in the winter of 2014, Aeham Ahmad played his piano in the bombed-out refugee camp of Yarmouk. Surrounded by people of all ages, he performed his music to escape the madness and hopelessness of the war. He got a lot of international attention.
After Islamist militias had destroyed his piano and the situation in Yarmouk had become too dangerous for him, Aeham fled through Turkey, Greece and the Balkans to Germany. There he was able to record his first album together with German pianist and composer Edgar Knecht and his trio. Keys to Friendship features wonderful arrangements of German and Middle Eastern folk songs and poems.
