Vejde Grind and Vincent Bruyninckx met at the Superior School of Circus Arts (ESAC) and are both specialised in the Cyr wheel. Their paths and wheels became entangled. Now they present a show called HOMAN.

Two bodies fill the stage. Vejde Grind, 24 years old, 1.90 m tall, weighing 80 kg, with the body of a Swedish caveman. Vincent Bruyninckx, 27 years old, 1.70 m tall, weighing 60 kg, with a body shaped like a French fry.

They first met at the Superior School of Circus Arts (ESAC) in Brussels in 2016.
Both specialised in the Cyr wheel, their paths and wheels became entangled.

H O M A N – A reference to human? To home? To man? Or perhaps a suggestion for something that's neither home, nor completely human. Not quite man and not quite what you think it is. It’s almost what you thought it was, but it’s a bit different.

Even when you close your eyes, an image of the physical remains etched in your memory. Light blends with darkness and the imaginary merges with the physical. Maybe that is the moment when the performance takes place

In 2019, we already presented a work in progress of this show at the Predikherenkerk church in Leuven, now you can see the end result.

HOMAN has been included in the shortlist of the European circus label CIRCUSNEXT 2020-2021.

Winter circus

Since 2021, the new circus workshop CIRKLABO has supported circus artists in their artistic development.

After nearly a year, over 20 circus troupes have made use of the site. During Winter Circus 2021, we therefore present an extra dose of circus from our own circus workshop. The various circus troupes are all connected to Leuven one way or another, their creations have been partly created in Leuven and are supported or coproduced by CIRKLABO.

Press

“Science-fiction writers construct an imaginary future. Historians attempt to reconstruct the past. Ultimately both are seeking to understand the present.” - Naomi Oreskes.
