This year, Leuven-based Frascati Symphonic celebrates its fifteenth anniversary. With this anniversary concert, Frascati Symphonic is opening a window to a brave new world. With compositions by Dvořák, Smetana and Wieniawski, they put a spotlight on their cultural connection to Eastern Europe.

Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, also known as the New World Symphony, is by far his most popular symphony and a monument of symphonic music. In America, Dvořa had become acquainted with the music of black and native Americans, and he integrated these influences in his symphony.

Eighteen-year-old Japanese violist Rino Yoshimoto plays the solo part in Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto. She has captivated audiences across the globe with her solo debuts at Carnegie Hall and Wiener Musikverein. She currently studies at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.

From Má vlast (My Fatherland) by Czech composer Bedrich Smetana, Frascati will perform the well-known piece The Moldau. It begins as a small brook and develops into a majestic river, which is a nice metaphor for fifteen years of Frascati.

  • Lucas Van Vlierberghe (°1995) - AGU - Dawn of the New World
  • Bedrich Smetana, The Moldau from Má vlast
  • Henryk Wieniawski, Violin Concerto nr. 1 in fis opus 14
  • Antonín Dvořák, Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95, From the New World
