‘Even before their birth, we attribute various characteristics to an individual:
‘Is it a boy or a girl?’ is the question pregnant women most frequently hear. Because gender comes with certain behaviours, expectations, preferences and attributes.
However, research has proven that the differences between individual people are much greater than those between boys and girls.
Yet we, as human beings, appear to find it useful to categorise everyone.
Boy. Girl. Blue. Pink. Nice and clear.
Pink is for girls, just like scented candles, crying, caring, diaries, feelings and ponies.
Blue is for boys, just like cars, aggression, pay checks and overtime, rockets and blue puzzles.
There is no doubt about the existence of differences. Neither is there any doubt about the fact that we attach too much importance to these differences. It’s time we begin to question them.
In GRATIS CHIPS! we turn the existing gender stereotypes on their head. Even though women have been wearing trousers for a long time, men still don’t wear skirts.
