The string quartet genre is often considered as the ultimate test for composers: four pairs of hands spontaneously interacting and playing in unison.
We hand over the Schouwburg theatre twice to the very best string quartets of the moment: the Maxwell Quartet and Quatuor Danel. And the young generation is also in the spotlight: EVE and BL!NDMAN [strings].

Quatuor Danel - Brahms & Sjostakovitsj
The unsurpassed Quatuor Danel quartet has gained acclaim around the world. They have been a popular guest of 30CC too. They celebrate their 30th anniversary with a concert of Brahms and Shostakovich, three composers they have grown up with and have become inextricably linked to.
In this jubilee concert, the quartet gladly share the knowledge and experience they received from their mentors. The members of the Borodin Quartet and Beethoven Quartet played together with Dmitri Shostakovich and passed the torch to Quatuor Danel. Norbert Brainin (Amadeus Quartet) taught them to recognise the refined dynamism and timbres in Brahms’s oeuvre.

- (For practical reasons, they will skip the Debussy String Quartet from their programme.)
Opener: EVE String Quartet
As part of the supporting programme, EVE String Quartet will play the Suite for String Quartet
by Leuven composer Evert Van Eynde. He composed this piece during the recent coronavirus pandemic and it describes his inner evolution over this strange period of time. Twelves bits of melodious minimalism each express a stage in an eventful journey that eventually leads to catharsis.
