Four individuals following the same collective path come together. In a large, impressive installation with a revolving wall and floating doors, they move in and through space. They urge each other on, run, collide, climb, carry, balance and transform. They arrive and depart, meet and leave, appear and disappear. In their quest for independence, they need each other more than ever. They keep each other in balance, or put each other off balance. A flirt with risk …

As human beings, we are always in motion. But what if you’re always ‘on the move’ and can never come home? And what about the tension between the individual and the group?

EXIT is an exciting and impressive physical circus and dance performance where movement, partner acrobatics and balancing merge. Choreographer Piet Van Dycke invites four circus artists, each specialized in a different discipline (bascule, straps, trapeze and acro dance), to take part in this show. The theme coincides with the content: four individual disciplines in one collective language.

Circumstances is a circus and dance company under the artistic guidance of Piet Van Dycke. In 2018, he graduated as a choreographer from Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Tilburg. Since then he has worked as a circus and dance producer, performer, coach and teacher at various art organisations. For several years, he has been active at dOFt, fABULEUS, Cie Woest, TeaTime Company and LAP. In the coming three years, he will work under PLAN, a development platform in Brabant (NL). He won the Jacques de Leeuw prize in 2018 and the BNG Bank Dance prize in 2021. Van Dycke’s work is characterised by the fusion of dance and circus for young and old alike.

Press

“In his work, Piet Van Dycke draws inspiration from contemporary circus and dance. This results in playful performances that stand out thanks to the original use of space, objects and bodies. He deals with topics through the interaction between movement and acrobatics, thus creating energetic images that constantly change.” (Jury report of BNG Bank Dansprijs 2021)
