Guillaume Dufay (ca. 1390-1474)
Missa Ecce ancilla Domini
Guillaume Dufay was one of the key figures of 15th‑century music and played a decisive part in the development of polyphony at the transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. His Missa Ecce ancilla Domini follows the tradition of masses built on pre‑existing material, in this case a Gregorian antiphon with Mary’s words at the Annunciation. In a clear and balanced style, Dufay brings melodic lines and polyphonic structures together to create a delicate, introspective whole.
