Meet the king and queen of afrobeat! Amadou & Mariam are a brilliant, musical and blind duo from Mali. Mariam sings in Bambara, the language of Mali. Her husband Amadou plays masterly solos and infectious guitar riffs. Together, they bring a danceable mixture of traditional music and western pop. The synergy between their two voices provides a touch of magic.

Amadou & Mariam have been combining their love and their musical career for more than 40 years. Since they released their inimitable album Dimanche à Bamako (which was produced by Manu Chao) in 2005, the duo has thrilled audiences worldwide. They have become the most famous ambassadors of Malian and African music. They have worked with Damon Albarn (Blur), Santigold, TV On The Radio, David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Johnny Marr (The Smiths) and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

In recent years, we have built a tradition at 30CC of concerts by Malian musicians. Just think of Salif Keita, Fatoumata Diawara, Boubacar Traoré, Toumani Diabaté, Vieux Farka Touré, etc. This world-famous duo absolutely had to attend the Oxfam Worldshop Leuven birthday party. It is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Time for a double celebration!

  • Afterparty with DJ Mukambo (Afro Grooves) until 01.00 AM
  • Opening: 50 years of Oxfam in Leuven (in Dutch)
