Patrick Leterme (1981)
Trois mouvements pour quatuor à cordes
Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847)
String Quartet, op. 80
Mendelssohn’s final quartet, composed after the death of his sister Fanny and only a few months before his own passing, is a sublime, tragic work, steeped in suffering and revolt in the face of death.
The Trois mouvements (Three movements) by Patrick Leterme, commissioned by the Alfama Quartet, complete the programme by adding a dose of passionate lyricism and religious spirituality, in the style of Mendelssohn.
