Although he is best known for his symphonic works and operas, Tchaikovsky also composed a number of remarkable chamber pieces. This gem for string sextet or string orchestra was inspired by a happy period in his life and irresistibly evokes the sundrenched atmosphere of his beloved Italy. It thus makes an ideal opening to our summer music festival.
