François Couperin (1668-1733)
Quatrième Ordre “La Piémontoise”

Jean-Marie Leclair (1697-1764)
Chaconne, op. 8

At the beginning of the 18th century, French instrumental music cultivated an art of refinement and eloquence. In his Quatrième Ordre, François Couperin brings together short harpsichord pieces, each with an evocative title suggesting a particular mood or character. Ornamentation, rhythmic flexibility and musical expression shape this gallery of musical character studies.
With the Chaconne, Op. 8, Jean‑Marie Leclair, for his part, illustrates the finesse of French violin playing, enriched by Italian influences and shaped by a style that is both virtuosic and expressive.
