Daniel Herskedal (NO)

Norwegian Daniel Herskedal is mysterious master of sound, a creator of tonal beauty. Rarely do you hear a musician who incorporates emotional depth and dazzling virtuosity and who dares to explore the limits of his instrument. His music makes you dream away and takes you along on a journey to the High North.

His music is heavenly influenced by multiple genres. The space, wit and quality of the sound and the brilliance simplicity impress. Add the melodic timbres he manages to get out of his tuba and you will be blown off your socks.

Mari Kalkun (EE)

With barely one million speakers, Estonian is one of Europe's smallest languages. Statistically, the chances for you to understand anything of singer Mari Kalkun are relatively small. And yet you will understand her every note. She creates an atmosphere in which the unspoilt nature of her homeland is never far away. Her folk music fits in in a long Baltic tradition, characterized by the purity, piano and zither. By using loop stations and incorporating elements from pop and jazz, the folk sounds refreshingly contemporary.

Press

“Kalkun’s singing is at the heart of things; joyous and lamenting by turns, but always poised and melodious, her poeticism apparent even without translation. A magical creation.” (The Guardian)
